Mary Lou's Story
Update: Sadly Bruce passed away October 2020 of cancer. We had a great life together. almost 50 years married. He left a legacy of love and respect for me and my daughters, granddaughters, family and friends. He is truly missed.
Bruce & I got married in July of 1971, just months after graduation. Being young and immature we struggled a lot with jobs and money. We bought our first home in Cahokia in 1974 and lived there for 18 years. In 1991 we moved over to Jerome Lane and stayed for 5 or 6 years. (Can't really remember) We sold that house and moved to south St. Louis County. We lived there 9 years and sold it due to structural problems. I wanted to move back to Illinois, so we built a home in Columbia in 2003. We loved the home and the area but in 2006 I had Back surgery, which I thought I'd be off 6 -8 weeks, but two weeks later I was leaking spinal fluid, so they had to go in again to repair it. I have never been the same. So, In 2008 we moved to Red Bed, IL to downsize due to my going on disability. My back and surgeries, plus having other medical conditions made me unable to work. s quiet and low key. Bruce is still working in Sauget, IL at Veolia Environmental plant in Sauget, IL that incinerates hazardous waste and hopes to retire in two more years.
We have 2 daughters Dawn & Barbara (Barbie) and 4 granddaughters, Breanna 32 years is an Interior Designer for Herring Design in St. Louis, Paige 28 years is a 1st grade teacher in Roxana, IL. She married Chase Riddle, they have a 0ne year old daughter Blakely my first great grandchild. Megan 26 graduated from SEMO with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business and Animal Science, works at Mon Clair Animal in Millstadt. and Madison 18 is a senior at Belleville West who plays for school volleyball and soccer and also plays in outside leagues. She will be attending Mizzou in Columbia in the fall. I try to do as many things with the family as I can.
Before I went on disability I worked for two large law firms. Sonnenchien Nath and Rosenthal, downtown St. Louis and Paule Camizine & Blumenthal in Clayton, MO. Both places I worked as an office facilities administrator (Mail room) doing a variety of tasks to keep the office running smoothly.
